Visiting Abitibi-Témiscamingue is a bit like following in the footsteps of the pioneers, prospectors and clearers. Located north of Montréal and the Laurentides region, the territory of Abitibi-Témiscamingue boasts a rich mining, lumbering and farming heritage, a remarkable Native culture and a host of other wonders. You have to go there to experience firsthand all it has to offer, like the ancient mine you can explore in Val d'Or, 91 metres (292 ft.) underground. In Malartic, you can visit the Musée minéralogique de l'Abitibi-Témiscamingue, the only museum in Québec devoted entirely to geology and mineralogy. You'll see rare chunks of lunar rock, discover the secrets of staurolite and learn the history of the oldest rock in the world.
