You will discover a fascinating history of the group's unique musical, artistic and political contributions to Canada. Distillery District/Arts Tour
The seeds of Canada's first licensed and largest 19th-century distilling firm were sown in 1837 when a still was set upon this site to convert surplus grain from an 1832 grist mill into whisky. The large stone distillery was erected in 1859-61 - an outstanding example of Victorian industrial design in terms of integrity, historical associations and aesthetic qualities. Today the picturesque, pedestrian-only village now houses 119 tenants, including galleries, museums, rehearsal halls, boutiques, retail shops, artist studios, restaurants, bistros and cafes. The Distillery bustles with activity day and night. You can catch live music, outdoor exhibitions, fairs and special events at the Distillery year 'round.
